Dermal Fillers

Materials known as "Cosmetic Dermal Fillers" have been developed for use in replacing lost volume in areas of the face such as the lines from the nose to the mouth(nasal labial folds), or the corner of the mouth lines(marionette lines).  These fillers also have been used with success to increase lip volume as well.  Cheek and chin volume can be augmented also.  Treatment results are long lasting, some up to two years, but not permanent.  Over time, the filler materials are safely and naturally absorbed by the body without side effects.

Reasons For Considering Cosmetic Fillers

     •   Deep nasal labial fold lines and marionette lines.

     •   Deep facial furrows.

     •   Cheek and chin augmentation.

     •   Depressed scars.

General Procedure

Cosmetic dermal fillers work by increasing the tissue volume in the area of injection such as the nasal labial folds or marionette lines.  Fillers such as Radiesse are made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a natural gel which is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, and minimally invasive procedure.  Other fillers, such as Restylane, are hyaluronic acid gel products and are similarly injected into the skin.  Both are office procedures and recovery is quick.

Recovery Process

Patients may generally return to their normal activities immediately after the procedure, however following post procedure guidelines will dramatically reduce the length and intensity of the recovery process.  Patients should avoid engaging in heavy physical exercise for a minimum of four hours after the injections.  Massaging the injected areas is recommended as it helps to smooth out the contours of the injected fillers.
