Submental Liposuction with Chin Implant View Photos

A prominent jaw line and strong chin has historically had a long history of allure.  A double chin has frequently indicated premature aging.  This may also be associated with a receding or "weak" chin.  Submental liposuction and an implant of biocompatible material are great ways to enhance your facial profile by improving the overall proportion and balance of the face.  With a chin implant and liposuction, the symmetry of the face can be shaped and contoured.  This can provide a rejuvenated and more youthful facial profile.

Reasons For Considering A Chin Implant With Submental Liposuction

     •   Bring various aspects of the face into proportion.

     •   Create a more defined facial profile if the jaw or chin lacks distinction.

     •   Extend  or enlarge the chin if the chin is recessed or small.

     •   Remove fatty deposits beneath the chin.

General Procedure

With this surgery, a biocompatible implant is inserted on the chin in order to augment the chin or jaw.  A small incision is made in the skin crease below the chin to allow the implant to be positioned in a pocket on the chin.  Liposuction under the chin is also performed through this incision.  Both chin augmentation as well as submental liposuction is commonly performed along with other procedures such as rhinoplasty(nose surgery), blepharoplasty(eyelid surgery), and face lifting.

Chin augmentation and submental liposuction surgery done in combination take about one and a half hours to perform.

Recovery Process

Immediately after the surgery, the face will be fitted with bandages in order to speed the recovery process and reduce swelling.  Generally, postoperative instructions call for plenty of rest in order to speed up the healing process and recovery time.  Keeping rhe head elevated during the initial recovery phase is also important.  Patients sometimes report discomfort associated with the surgery.  Any discomfort can be treated effectively with oral mecication which we will prescribe.  Patients may experience some swelling and bruising which can be eased by using cold compresses.  A liquid diet may be required for a day or two.  While complications are rare, patients can minimize potential problems by carefully following postoperative directions given after the surgery.  The substance used for the chin augmentation is made of durable, solid, biocompatible material that will remain unchanged forever.
